It is hard to believe another week has gone by. I am trying not to think about it...just go with the flow and enjoy every minute of it!
This weekend was a good one. Yesterday I did more hopping up on him and this time I could stay across his back like a sack of taters and he would take 4 to 5 steps before I would slide off. My goal was to get on tonite, but we had some pop up storms and the pen is slick so I decided I will play it safe.
Saturday was our first day out of the pen....we went for a walk thru the yard and hung out so Sonic Boom can eat some grass. He was not sure if he wanted to leave the pen, but once he did he was very much the curious gentleman as he checked things out. In the front yard I pulled up a chair to relax.
In between grass breaks we walked around.....we walked over the log in the front yard.
We walked between the dog house and the lilac bush which is kind of a tight squeeze for a new horse with a young mind....
He discovered the dog pool which is full of tadpoles.....he heard they are a source of good protein. SLURP....SLURP.....
Madison came out so I got her help....I needed to get some body shots of Boom to send to the MHF for the EMM plus I needed to see how he would be with someone new. First he snorted and was not so sure about her....
But he gave in and let her pet him....
Then he realized it was a trick! Where is she taking him????
SONIC BOOM SAYS: I will just follow quietly and make like I know the answer. :-)
Why are we stopping? Is this another trick?
I KNEW IT!!!! SHE IS UP TO SOMETHING!!!!! (Boom was still nervous around Madison so I had her running back and forth along the row of bales)
YES! I CAN JUST ESCAPE AND CALL IT A DAY! I WILL GO THAT WAY!!! GOTTA GO BEFORE SHE GETS ME!!!
HA HA HA!!!!! JUST KIDDING!!!! I am not afraid of some little girl! Just because I am wearing a tie-dye looking halter doesn't mean I am a chicken!
Mmmmmmm, speaking of chicken......smells like chicken! Wonder if it tastes like chicken!?
Relaxing time in the front yard.....Boom likes his first walk....
Look! His halter glows!
He is counting on his good looks to get him thru life, because he is convinced it sure isn't this halter. Ha ha! (I love it!)
Boom wanted to throw in a Diva shot with bangs flying in the wind....
Sniff Sniff.....smells like horse in here!
At the end of the day Brian wanted to visit with Boom a bit plus get him used to having both of us in the pen. Up until now, it has just been me.
This is the board I bounce on. I also use it as a mounting board. :-) Boom uses it as a jump.
Boom is very comfortable with Brian reaching over him and rub a dub dubbing him....
Working with feet.....feet are still a HUGE issue for him. I am just now getting to where I can pet the front ones all the way to the hoof, and he was lifting the left front foot but also moving. The rear I am rubbing to the hock. I just need to make that move and go farther down. Baby steps...
He is trying not to like me or his new life...but sometimes he just can't help himself.
SUCKER!!!!!!!!!! YOU ARE A SUCKER!!!!!! SHE TRAPPED YOU TOO!!!! HA HA HA! Seriously Bro, there is nothing like the love of a girl and don't you let anyone tell you different!
Our shadow.....
This weekend I took his web halter off and he wanted to make the grand entrance thru the middle gate to show off his new look....
Now from this angle.....
YIKES!!!! The boy is dragging around a 50 ft long snake! Give me a 5 ft rattler any day but this 50 ft long snake ...... well, I am a little freaked out!
And now I present - the 50 ft long snake....in human words it is called a hose.
SONIC BOOM: Oh, I feel so silly.....
Why is he touching me? Only the girl touches me. Since the girl has not done anything about it I guess he is okay...
More forehead rubs....Boom is liking those.
After playing with him we threw the balls at him. He really doesn't care much about them. Sometimes he reacts, but only enough to say "What the heck?"
This afternoon Brian and Madison went to a movie and I hung out at home. I am a hermit. :-)
I took Boom for a walk and realized I left my camera in the house. Something huge happened and I missed it! We walked around some more and took a munching break and I decided I could trust him to hang out and eat. So I ran in the house to get the camera and here he is waiting for me.
I walked right up to him...no problem. Yay!
Then I got on the ground and took pictures from the ground up....
Here is my big surprise! I led him up to the trailer, he pawed it with one foot then backed out. I waited for him to sniff it again then he stepped right in! As in I asked once and here he came! Wow! I really only wanted two feet so I could back him off but hey, I am not going to be picky right now! We loaded and unloaded 3 times and I was so excited!
Hopping off the trailer was not a big deal either. He stepped down casually each time.
I was so proud of him! He earned more grass munching! :-)
I love this shadow picture....looks like I am riding him! I am in my mind....
Here we have the equine garbage disposals. Tandee doesn't always eat all her food, or she throws part of it out. Here we have from left to right: Jester the donk, Ajax the burro, Wyoming the mustang, and if you look real close you can see Batman's tail at the end. They clean everything up that Tandee leaves.
It was a great weekend! We did have some pop up storms that made things a little slick but we made the best of it and worked with what we had. It could have been much worse....we were lucky.
Until later....Karen and Tripp who says he has shadow pictures too....

WOW....your doing AMAZING....Boom is looking so great and handsome....Terrific job!
Karen, I love the Diva shot with the halter and freeze brand showing nicely. He looks like one cool Mustang dude!
Wow karen...I LOVE THAT HALTER!And of course handsome Boom!!I was amazed when Valero stepped all the way in too!(Like you i was just expecting 2 feet)Can't wait to see you guys and have a reunion of our 2 boys!!!YAY!!
Boom is just the best. If I lived in the US I would so be coming to bid for him. You do such a great job with these guys. You just keep moving forward with them and getting it done and yet taking their own personalities into account and letting them be themselves, and keeping it fun as much as possible too. It encourages me to try new and interesting things with my own non-mustang girl all the way down here in Oz. What an inspiration you are, Karen! :)
Thank you everyone! He really is awesome and so much fun to work with. He is the one who has challenged me the most so far, and I would not have it any other way.
Tina, thank you so much! What breed of horse do you have? We also have an Arabian (they will always have a special place in my heart), Quarter horses, a black paint....I think that is it. Ha ha!
Karen, I have one very wonderful Clydesdale/QH cross called Tori. She is so gentle and sweet and the biggest, roundest, gorgeous-est chunk of horsie goodness ever. :) We play a bit at clicker games and I also ride her english style, as we mostly do here, but in a very relaxed fashion like a true aussie. :)
Tina, your horse sounds AWESOME!!! I love how you describe her. :-)
Do you have a blog or FB page? I would love to see a picture of her! How do you get along with the clicker training? I think it is a great thing but am not real coordinated....I would be clicking tomorrow instead of today because that is when I would remember it. HA HA! Okay, not that bad...but almost.
