The soft eyed gelding...and friends...

Remember the soft eyed gelding I passed up so I could get a mare named Tandee?  I ended up with him too!  :-)

I moved Tandee but still went to visit Druch.  Truth be known, he was the one I would have picked because of his soft look and his flea bitten color...but I wanted foals.  And I loved Tandee's attitude.  When I went back to visit, Druch was doing that back and forth thing in an area of about 5 or 6 ft wide.  Swinging that head back and forth....he was so depressed and was losing weight!  It made me sad so I contacted the people who owned him (same people I bought Tandee from) and the said they would sell me Druch too, and I could just add his purchase price to my remaining payments I was making for Tandee.  Oh, did I forget to mention that?  I bought them on payments!  Who knew you could do that?  I am so happy they trusted me.  I paid them off early and had both of them until they passed on.  Druch was 27 when he passed away.

Druch was 8 yrs old, neck reined, was sooooo soft, and he had a canter to die for!  His canter is the smoothest I have ever ridden and he could go and go.  He came from racing stock so I should not have been surprised.  He had worked cows but had not been out on the roads or trails.  The first day he drank water from a puddle I was so happy!  Even back in the day I had dreams of riding endurance rides so drinking whenever you could is important.

Surmarohara used to be a race horse.  I called him Sir and he turned into a great trail horse!

Sir showing off some moves!

Tandee and Sir...

Look who is in front of the race horse!  Ha ha!

The three Arabians who were in my life....and all are together right now on the other side of that Rainbow Bridge.

I love my mustangs, but the Arabians will always hold a special forever spot in my heart.  I will have another one day...when the time is right.

Until later, Karen and Tripp who I swear has some Arab in him!  <3 nbsp="" p="">

R.I.P. Tandee...

Tandee came into my life when she was 5 yrs old....and she left when she was 34 yrs old.  :-(

When I got Tandee, it was like a dream come true!  She was my first Arabian horse and my goal at that time was to have her bred so I could have a couple Arabian foals in addition to riding all over the place.  It was the foals that kept me from buying the soft eyed gelding that was her stable mate.  (That is another story!) She did have two foals...and she lost them both.  One had a broken hip when he was born and the other one had septicemia.   All was not lost...while at the vet clinic we met the manager of the University's QH barn and he had lost a mare.  Tandee got to raise a QH baby!  The big joke in the barn was that the Arabian milk would make the QH baby start raising her tail and arching her neck when she trotted...ha ha!  As much as they did not like those 'crazy Arabs' they sure loved Tandee.  Come on...how could you not love a mare that took in another baby as her own?  I can still hear the nickering and I can still see her nurture that little foal like she was her own.
After that I decided it was not worth the heartbreak...no more foals.  So we rode, and rode, and rode...

She was sassy and full of herself, and that is one of the many things I loved about her!  She was not very tall but she was stout.  She had hooves like rocks and was tough as an old boot.  And she was gorgeous....just plain gorgeous!

This was the first day that she was mine and I was hers!  I was so happy!  She had 30 days on her...and I had no idea what the heck that meant. Ha ha!  Yep, I had been around horses most of my life but I was not raised around horse people, so that meant nothing to me.  I didn't care....sure, 30 days is great!  I loved her!

Here are a few random shots I found.

Tandee, Druch (the soft eyed gelding I passed up...) and Surmarohara (Sir).

I loved watching Tandee and Tripp together.  He was very sweet with her, and she thought he was quite handsome.  :-)

Tandee, Wyoming and Batman.

Tandee got to meet Red last year (or was it the year before?).  He thought he was 'all that' and she did too!

When I would let them in the yard to graze, she would run, buck and fart with the best of them.  These are all within the past 3-4 years.

Brian found this picture in his 'photo stash.'  This was at Batman's 2nd birthday party in 2011.  :-)

I cut this photo down the center between her ears, then made a book mark out of the right side.

Batman loved Grandma Tandee.

This was taken this Spring...

I spent a lot of time wondering when that 'time' would come.  Everyone says that "you will know."  Heck, even I have said it.  It is true!  After being on the emotional roller coaster for I don't know how long, one day we just knew.  She was very thin but content, so we let her do her thing.  Her 'thing' consisted of keeping us on our toes.  When she didn't like a certain feed it was time to find what she did like.  Dang she was picky!  She would trot to the yard, and back to the barn lot at meal time.  She would shake that cute little head of hers and nicker non stop as if to ask me what the hold up was. It was when she started losing her sight that I saw some differences in her.  She was unsure of herself, she was overly careful, she would spook about things that never bothered her before.  She was still her sassy self, but with all of those other things starting to show their ugly head more often.  One day the dogs were running around in the yard and she panicked.  She looked so scared and just froze....I cried and cried....I knew it was time and it broke my heart.  Not only did I never want her to feel fear, I didn't want her to react to it and get hurt.  We picked a day and said our good-byes.

That was about three weeks ago...give or take.  I expected a few days to go by and the relief of knowing she is okay in a different place to take over.  It has not happened yet.  There is such a huge void.  Every morning I would go out to feed and she was there to greet me, then curse at me for not moving quick enough to suit her.  I miss her sooooo much!  But at the same time I am sooooo happy that she and I got to be together for so long!  We had a lot of great times and she was there through my thick and thin.  I am blessed to have had her in my life for so long.  :-)

Two funny stories.
1. One night I was sleeping on the hammock in the back yard.  I woke up to heavy breathing on my face and when I slowly opened my eyes there were two big light colored shapes over my face.  I freaked out and when I jumped, the 'ghosts' jumped too!  I rolled out of the hammock onto my hands and knees and looked in the direction of the noise...It was Tandee and Druch.  They were snorting over me because they knew I didn't belong there.  That day I had someone at the house with a bobcat to move some dirt around and I forgot to shut the gate.  They came into the yard.....I still laugh out loud over that one!

2.  I was riding Tandee at the Conservation area and took a lunch with me.  I stopped by a small creek to eat.  It was so pretty out there.  It was time to go so I was half way mounted when she jumped that darn creek!  I fell off and landed in the creek....and I kept a hold of my reins!  I am glad for that because she was not the type to come back to get me!  Ha ha!  It would have been a long walk back in boots that were a bit too big for me.

Good times!!!

Until later....Karen and Tripp who is helping me the best he can.  Thank goodness for horse smooches!

I am alive...more of March 2014

A couple weekends ago I was reading a few blogs and one of them was about why that particular person blogged.  It was for a lot of the same reasons I do.  I enjoy it, writing is fun, it is a way to look back at what has been going on, and it is relaxing (most of the time).  I have been in a little bit of a funk - nothing is really wrong - I am just a little 'off'.  So here I am!  Blogging to try to beat the funk!

Here is what all went on through March....

Hand and wrist therapy!!!!  I got out the rubber curries and was brushing the horses with my left hand.  It was good exercise for the hand and it made the horses feel good.

Me and Tripp having our self portrait fun!

Love their eyes....this is Ace.

Miss Epona...looking like she really doesn't have time for me or my antics...

Stormy wanting in on the action...

I went over to a friends to help butcher chickens one day.  I am going to share the fun pictures.  :-)

They have a few goats, raise and sell kids, and they milk their goats.  All critters at her farm are friendly, and the goats are no different.

They got some heritage breed turkeys a couple years ago.  These are Sweetgrass turkeys.  There is Squiggy, Laverne and Shirley.  Then came along Gulliver.  Gulliver is one of her hatched out turkeys we fostered, and since it was so much bigger than our guinea keets, I named him (turned out to be a 'her') Gulliver.  Gulliver went back home and then we ended up with Shirley for a while.  There is no other way to put it...she was being a little witch and attacking her dogs and anybody else who walked by.  The dogs know not to bother the birds and my friend didn't want to take a chance on the dogs 'forgetting' the rules....so we brought Shirley home to put in line with the ones that need to be butchered.  As luck would have it, Shirley changed her behavior and later went back home.

Hemi eating on ice chunks...

I was playing with Wyoming one evening and thought I would get on.  I did - twice.  The first time I got on and immediately got back off.  The wrist still isn't great and I was not sure how Wy would feel about it so I was playing it safe.  The second time I moved him away from the mounting stump and I could tell he was nervous.  We stopped and I felt him hump his back up.  I relaxed and tried not to hold my breath, then he relaxed.  I reached down to rub all over him and told him how good he is!  Then I got off while the getting off was good!  :-)

Our heritage breed turkeys.  Funny story on the turkeys.  We got them a few years ago with intentions of butchering them in the Fall.  Fall comes and I say "Hey, turkeys are on sale for a REALLY good price.  Why not winter the turkeys for a year and get some eggs next Spring?"  Brian thinks that is a great idea!  They are still here.....ha ha!  Pimp Daddy is a Black Spanish and the girls, one who is strutting like a Tom, are Blue Slates.  I really enjoy having them around.

Chase the llama wearing a snow cap.

We had a nice snow that covered everything, then it was gone just like that!

Laramie giving a crooked grin.  He is such a nut!

He looks like he is wearing Billy Bob teeth!

When I come home from work, these two are waiting for me.  :-)

My jeans are wearing out just right!  I thought about putting them on eBay and asking lots of money for them like the designer stores do.  It isn't cheap getting these kinds of worn marks on them!  Then I was walking through the shed and got hung up on a piece of wire, and it ripped out the back side!  It isn't the fashionable 'show your butt' type of rip.  It is the barbed wire L shaped rip - darn it!  These were my favorite pair!  (I can wear them at home when nobody is around)

It is hard to believe I am writing about March in June....where does the time go?

Until later...Karen and Tripp who says "The girl needs to take her time healing.  Lots and lots of time...."
